Corn Dogs for Grandpa

My husbands father celebrated his birthday last weekend.  I volunteered to help bring one of the cakes for the family to celebrate.  After a little bit of deliberation I knew just the design we had to do!

He recently took up carving again and started carving “corn dogs” – Since corn dogs (the food) has been a long standing joke between us this was too good an opportunity to miss.  Here was the corn dog cake inspired by his latest wood carving.

I used a digital graphic I found on Google images of a dachshund silhouette.  Created a template on my Silhouette Cameo and cut it out of white cardstock.  Then I used that to stencil the dog on my cake.  Similar to THIS tutorial here.crondog1

Next we added yellow Starburst mini candies for the corn kernels.   Last but not least Thumper insisted we needed to add his marshmallows to the cake and since pink hearts were available and he “REALLY REALLY REALLY” loves Grandpa it was a perfect fit.

Just a side note.  Pie day is coming up on Saturday if you feel the need to make a pie (or 2 or 3)!  We have several in the works here if everyone starts feeling better.
