Homemade Pasta!

For fun last Friday we decided to make our own pasta to go in our Chicken Noodle Soup.  So the kids and I donned our aprons and went to town.   To see the original post I found it on go here

Homemade Pasta Stars

1 egg

1/2 – 1 cup flour (we used just over 1/2 cup)

pinch of salt

In a medium bowl, crack the egg and whisk it lightly until beaten.  Begin stirring in the flour and salt until a pliable dough forms.  On floured surface, use a wooden rolling pin to roll the dough out until it is very thin.  Then use small cookie cutters to cut out shapes.  Drop one at a time into a boiling pot of soup!

*  These pasta’s can also be made in advance left on a countertop over night to dry and then frozen until you are ready to use.

Small cookie cutters were hard to come by around here plus with small hands they were tricky.  So in the end we went for a slightly larger shape.  We used about 2/3 of our pasta and put the rest in the freezer to try another time.

End result:  SUCESS!  The kids had fun and enjoyed eating the end product too!

We made chicken noodle soup to go with our noodles.  Nothing fancy.  Here is the recipe to the best of my reccolection.  If anyone wants more detail let me know and I will try to be more specific next time I make it 🙂

Chicken Noodle Soup

2 or 3 cans of Swanson’s chicken broth

about 3 handfuls of mini carrots chopped up

3 ribs of celery chopped

1 pint sized jar of Grandma P’s canned chicken

1 bay leaf

Bring above ingredients to a boil for about 20 min.

It seemed a bit bland so then I added:

Two shakes of poultry seasoning

a small shake of pepper

Once pasta’s are in drop one at a time into pot.  Cook for 5-10 min.  (Ours needed the 10 min)

Then eat and enjoy!
